The Baita Bai de Dones hut is situated at the valley station of the 5 Torri chairlift. Thanks to this excellent position, starting from here people can enjoy all the summer and winter attractions of the surrounding area.
It is located directly on the slopes of the Great War Ski Tour and Super8 Ski Tour, two spectacular routes with slopes that are suitable for everyone. In summer, this hut is the start and arrival of many hiking routes, including a visit to the trenches and emplacements of the First World War open-air museum. It is an excellent starting point for climbing tours and Via Ferratas such as the Averau and the de Ra Gusela. The chairlift departs next to the hut and is equipped for mountain bike transport. It leads directly to the climbing walls of the 5 Torri and the new crag Averau Sud - Renato De Pol Renè.
Furthermore, Baita Bai de Dones is located at the finish of the new Lino Lacedelli piste, which is equipped for competition training and available for ski clubs of all levels and provides agreements for lunchtime meals to the Ski Clubs’ athletes while training on this piste.
The hut keepers take special care in the cuisine. In winter, the house specialities are wild game meat and homemade pasta dishes and in summer tempting tramezzini, rolls and toasted sandwiches, ice creams and homemade cakes.
The restaurant also has a bookshop with a large selection of hiking guides and lovely souvenirs representing the mythical creatures of the local legends. One of these has its origins in the lovely little lake Bai de Dones, literally translated "The Woman's Bath", just a few steps away from the restaurant. It is said that the lake once was inhabited by the mysterious Anguànes, cloven-footed female water nymphs, who were servants of the god Sylvanus.
A curiosity: the figure of an Anguana hangs over the front door of the hut.
Events throughout the year
Baita Bai de Dones is a member of the Cortina Delicious Team, a consortium that organizes all kinds of events throughout the year: high altitude concerts, parties on the panoramic terraces, exhibitions and meetings in the cultural centres of the area, historical re-enactments in the museums of WWI, sports competitions, themed dinners and photo competitions and solidarity events.
